Behind the Mask
Facemasks are a forced accessory that some embrace while others fight as though it were a symbol of oppression. Regardless of personal opinions, we decided to take a look at why people are so divided. People are accosted, screamed at, and shamed for wearing and not wearing masks. It doesn’t seem to matter which side you are on, there is always someone there to remind everyone of the opposing view. Conform, and someone calls you a robot; dissent, and another person calls you an anarchist. Perhaps these are symptoms and not the root of the problem. Take away people’s autonomy, and they will revolt. Everyone wants to feel like they have choice and free will. Toddlers and teens protest and push the lines daily. Perhaps it’s time for adults to step up and demonstrate how to be accepting, discerning, and compassionate without losing personal control.
