Spelling: Modern manipulations Part II
Our second week on this topic delved into advertising and music among other things. We really wanted to convey how the body processes information it receives, whether it’s vibration, emotion, sound, or sight. Musical notes correspond with and engage our chakras. Often we like a tune before we even hear or understand the words. In that way, music can touch us and create reactions when the words may not be something we agree with.
For example, “My Sharona” by The Knack was a popular ‘80s song. It has a great beat, and people always jump in to sing the line, “My, My, My / I, Yi, Woo!” Oddly, I’ve never heard anyone sing the rest of the lyrics:
“Never gonna stop, give it up, such a dirty mind; I always get it up for the touch of the younger kind.”
Sure it’s just a song. Still, it’s important to recognize the message it sends. Maybe we could brush it off as teen angst, but there are two other songs on the same album titled “That’s what the little Girls Do” and “Good Girls Don’t.” Those along with lyrics in several other songs on the same record make it hard to dismiss intentions.
In the podcast, I brought up the song “Wake up Everybody,” by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, featuring Teddy Pendergrass. As a teenager, the song would always drill deep into my soul. I understood the lyrics and appreciated them. However, after living a while, the lyrics hold even deeper meaning. As an adult, I have watched military conflicts come and go, poverty and despair, hatred between various groups of people. When I hear the music, I get emotional. Pendergrass seems to plead with people to get their shit together, and I recognize the desperation in his voice. As the song goes on, he becomes confrontational with admonishments to drug dealers, politicians, and business men. The song closes with a call to action. The soulful singing and beautiful tune move me beyond words.
Recognizing that the song is played in G♭ aka F♯, the music directly affects the Heart and Communication chakras. By repeating the line “Wake up Everybody,” with notes that correspond with the appropriate chakras, the average person is receiving subliminal messaging and is “spelled.”
Is this a bad thing? No, of course not, at least not in this case. It is important, though, to realize the influences that surround us and who we let into our subconscious.
Is this deliberate? Often, it isn’t a conscious effort. Many song writers talk about divine inspiration, or that they are driven to write certain tunes and words. The music comes out, and when finished, the writer is often surprised with the result. In many instances, songs can be a way that the universe creates awareness and awakenings for change.
What about free will? No one is tying you to a chair with head phones on and a tv screen flashing images at you. You have the option to turn off electronics, not listen, and be selective in your choices of entertainment.
The podcast covers a lot, and I hope you take time to listen. We promise - we’re not inserting subliminal messaging. We just want you to be informed.
